Summer is right around the corner, so it’s time to start getting your car ready for the heat and thinking about what the extra routine maintenance of summertime. Follow these easy summer car maintenance tips for a cool and stress-free summer.
After winter, get a full inspection done on your car to make sure brakes, hoses, belts, filters, spark plugs, and the battery are all working fine.
Before the hot weather hits, make sure your air conditioner is still working after a whole winter of disuse. If it’s not working, have it looked at by a mechanic—it could be a bigger problem with the cooling system.
Right before summer is also a good time to do a coolant flush—new, clean coolant will do a much better job at keeping your vehicle from overheating than old coolant that spent the winter keeping your engine from freezing.
Changing temperatures have a big effect on tire pressure, so check it regularly both before and during summer. Whether over- or underinflated, tires that aren’t at the correct psi will give you trouble.
